After last week’s eruption of shootings and bombings in Stockholm, on Wednesday, January 4th, Swedish police responded to two more incidents of allegedly gang-related violence. Public broadcaster SVT reports that a man in his 20s was killed in a shooting in the north-western Stockholm suburb of Jordbro:
Another man, in his 40s, sustained gunshot wounds and is being treated at hospital for his injuries. … Police received a phone call at about 4 p.m. about shots being fired in Jordbro, nearby the commuter train station. … Both victims have prior criminal convictions, and one of them has served a multi-year prison sentence.
According to SVT, commuter train services were interrupted due to the police investigation. They were restored two hours after the incident, but the Jordbro station remained closed.
Also on Wednesday, at 6:30 a.m., police in the southern city of Malmö responded to calls about shots being fired at a parking lot in the eastern part of the city. Samnytt.se reports:
A man in his 50s with gunshot wounds was found at the location and transported to hospital by ambulance. He was reportedly hit at least three times, twice in the torso and once in the head. He was able to contact relatives who in turn called [emergency response number] 112.
A vehicle at the scene, possibly connected to the shooting, was impounded by police. Patrols with dogs searched the area, but to date no suspect has been identified.
According to Samnytt, 63 people were killed in gang-related shootings last year in Sweden. This was an increase of 40% over 2021.
