This summer marked the 75th anniversary of an event in the U.S. state of New Mexico. An unknown craft crashed in the prairie outside the town of Corona. The military from the nearby city of Roswell got involved and allegedly transported the debris to the air force base there.
Many have speculated about the true nature of what became known as the Roswell incident. The U.S. government said at the time that it was a weather balloon, later changing the story to a special balloon designed to spy on Soviet nuclear activities.
No conclusive evidence has ever been presented to back up either story, leaving the field open to speculation and private researchers such as the late Stanton Friedman. A nuclear physicist with a long career in classified military projects, Friedman spent the last few decades of his life investigating unidentified flying objects and alleged extraterrestrial visits to Earth.
Friedman, who sadly passed away in 2019, was the first civilian to investigate the Roswell incident. Based on his findings, which he published in the impressively well-researched book Crash at Corona, he firmly claimed that the craft that crashed was of extra-terrestrial origin.
Most of us still laugh at the idea of ‘little green men’ visiting Earth. So did the U.S. government for a long time.
Not anymore. Behold the Daily Mail, October 31st, 2022:
A classified report due to be sent to Congress Monday [the 31st] lists more than 150 cases of unexplained UFO encounters by military and government officials in the past year, sources told DailyMail.com exclusively. The 22-page report, compiled by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), analyzes 366 cases—and only about half of them could be explained, two sources close to the department said.
The report was apparently delayed a few days, as explained by Daily Mail reporter Josh Boswell while appearing on the Tucker Carlson show on Fox News on November 2nd. Asked by Carlson about what U.S. government sources believe the unexplained phenomena are, Boswell replies bluntly:
Well, the sources that I have tell me that they just don’t know what these things are. You know, there is a proportion of these cases, 366 in the classified reports, that … explain Chinese drones, for example, but the unexplained ones, they just don’t have a clue. These things are moving in ways that we just don’t understand. Hypersonic speeds, and then they just turn on a dime.
A few years ago, many news outlets around the world reported on videos released by the U.S. Department of Defense, showing fighter pilots from the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz interacting with what they defined as a ‘tic tac’ shaped craft with physics-defying capabilities. In 2019, Christopher Mellon, former U.S. Assistant Secretary of Defense for Intelligence, went on another Fox News show and explained, in a tone as if he was talking about having oatmeal for dinner: “We know that UFOs exist, this is no longer an issue.”
The host, Brian Kilmeade, then asked Mellon:
Are there indications that these unidentified flying objects are doing things that this world is not capable of?
Mellon’s reply, inflected with oatmeal indifference, is literally Earth-shattering:
There are indications, actually. The Nimitz incident is a famous example of this, which was well documented by multiple radars, multiple pilots, in broad daylight. That vehicle demonstrated speeds in excess of 5,000 miles per hour. It was able to hover at 50 feet above the ocean after descending from 80,000 feet.
In short: yes, the U.S. government is considering the possibility that these craft actually are from another planet.
Which brings us to the inevitable question, the one that Stanton Friedman unabashedly answered affirmatively: is Earth being visited by intelligently controlled vessels from another world?
Given the level of disclosure currently happening in the United States, it is time to at least consider that the answer could be ‘yes.’
But wait—could these objects not be products created under another secret government program? After all, governments all over the world have had secret programs running since the very institution of government was invented.
This theory is possible but highly unlikely. Such alleged government programs would have had to make scientific discoveries that allowed them to defy the known laws of physics, just like the pilots on the Nimitz described; just like their videos show; just like what the U.S. government itself acknowledges these craft can do.
Such discoveries of ‘new physics’ would be scientifically more revolutionary than any other progress in the natural sciences in the last 100 years, and the knowledge of them kept secret.
This explanation is as old as the UFO phenomenon. There have been witnesses, radar detections, even videos, of UFOs making physics-defying maneuvers for decades, with anecdotal evidence stretching back centuries. If UFOs really are a government program—when did government break the boundaries of physics as we know it?
In sum, we have only two explanations for UFOs: the extra-terrestrial one and the ‘secret physics’ one. Since there is no definitive evidence in either direction, there is really only one method with which we can decide which explanation is better.
That method is Ockham’s Razor. We ask ourselves: which of these two explanations of the UFO phenomenon gives us the simplest, most straightforward argument for a plausible explanation? It does not have to be the truth, not even a probable explanation. Just a plausible one.
The ‘secret physics’ explanation relies on the assumption that at least one government in the world has made revolutionary discoveries in physics, kept those discoveries a secret for longer than any human has been alive, and for all this time has been flying around in machines that are vastly superior to any publicly known means of transportation.
Here is the problem. For what purpose would this secret program be flying around in their UFOs? Whatever government has them, could win any war, anywhere, in no time. But UFOs do not have military applications. They aren’t even used for transporting government dignitaries.
Would the men and women in this secret program just be flying around for fun? In short, the ‘secret physics’ explanation is a complicated one.
The ‘extra-terrestrial’ explanation, on the other hand, requires only two assumptions: that there is at least one other planet in the universe where there is intelligent life, and that the intelligent beings there are further along in their scientific discoveries than we are.
All of a sudden, we have a plausible explanation as to why UFOs are moving about in our atmosphere, and possibly even landing once in a while. Their owners and operators are explorers: anthropologists and social scientists seeking knowledge about humankind.
If we think about it, this is actually not such a bad explanation after all. To reach advanced levels of scientific knowledge, people have to be curious. If they are curious, they want to explore, to stretch the boundaries of their knowledge.
When they happened upon Earth, they decided to study us and find out what kind of civilization we are. Given that they seem to have been here for a while, we must not have scared them off yet.
This image of curious explorers zooming back and forth through our atmosphere defies much of our conventional idea of extraterrestrials. Thanks to a long history of science-fiction literature and film, we have become used to thinking of space aliens as anything from spiritual entities with uncanny abilities to repulsive monsters. The former category is well represented in the original Star Trek series; the latter is portrayed in the movie Independence Day.
But why would ET be so different from us? They, too, are part of God’s Creation, and would reasonably resemble us in one way or another. We can get an idea of how extraterrestrials would be constituted by looking around our planet, where all higher mammals are built along the same principle: a head with two eyes, two ears and a nose, four limbs, a heart, lungs, a digestive system that starts with a mouth and ends with a rectum.
There is a good reason for this: it is a form that works.
In other words, it is at least plausible that the space aliens who fly around in UFOs both look like us and think like us. At some point, when one of their exploring crews was flying around in our neck of the woods, they came upon Earth and reported back home, “Hey, guys, there is a planet out here in Sector KB5 where there are humanoids just like us!”
Imagine the excitement back home. They set up an exploration program, based on ethical and judicious principles, without being too invasive. Like us, they are not perfect, so they make mistakes. The crash in New Mexico could have been the result of a simple engineering flaw, or a pilot error.
Suppose, now, that the eventual goal of their exploration is to make contact. Why would they not just land in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris and ask the first Frenchman they encounter to ‘Take us to your leader?’
Two problems. First of all, all the Frenchmen are busy discussing adverbs and Derrida, so nobody would pay attention to the space aliens. Secondly, if these aliens know anything about Earthly politics, their first choice probably wouldn’t be President Macron.
They would also be wise to avoid Joe Biden, for reasons we shall not delve into here.
Knowing how Earth-shattering (pardon the pun) extraterrestrial disclosure would be, these visitors from another planet have chosen to move forward slowly, and gradually. They might even have developed a small cooperation program with some unit on Earth to move disclosure forward under great caution and strict supervision.
Or maybe Earth is not the first place they have made contact with over the millennia. They could have an established protocol for how these things are supposed to be handled.
A lot of speculation, yes, and very little evidence. But is it really so out-of-this-world crazy to suggest that someone, somewhere, on a distant planet, has decided that Earth is an interesting planet to explore, and eventually make contact with?
No, it is not. The U.S. government currently appears to be engaged in a slow-paced disclosure program. It is time for the rest of us to entertain the possibility that UFOs are indeed extraterrestrial.
We might learn that these space aliens are humanoids, like the ones described by Charles Hall, who claims to have worked alongside aliens during his time in the U.S. Air Force. He has detailed his experiences from the Nellis Air Force Base gunnery range in Nevada, where he frequently interacted with aliens he describes as “tall whites” that look much like us Earthlings.
According to Hall, these aliens have a permanent base in the mountains in central Nevada. It is treated by the U.S. government as a foreign embassy.
Like many others who speak openly about such seemingly fantastic experiences, he is well educated, with two master’s degrees, one of them in nuclear physics. He has written a series of books under the title Millennial Hospitality, where he goes into remarkable detail about these alleged aliens.
Hall implies that the base has been there longer than the United States has existed and that it is used by the aliens in part for their own space travel routes. In part, he explains, it serves as a center for interactions between humans and aliens.
We can believe all this or dismiss it as fantasy. We can laugh it off as nonsense, or we can accept it at face value. Or we can just take an agnostic approach and wait for more evidence. But regardless of what we do, there is one thing we can all agree on: God’s Creation is big enough to harbor more life than we can possibly imagine.
Let us welcome it.
