Assistant News Editor
(part-time and full-time)
The European Conservative is looking for Assistant News Editors (part-time and full-time). In this Brussels-based role, you will be part of our News and Analysis team. Working closely with the team in a fast-paced environment, you will edit, proofread, and publish daily news and analysis content for our website.
Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Reviewing and editing, and generally improving and refining news stories, analyses, interviews, and other content for our website.
- Ensuring that all content complies with our style guide.
- Uploading and publishing content to our website’s CMS.
- Assisting with the production of our weekly e-newsletter.
Other possible responsibilities may include:
- Drafting short (150-500 words) book reviews on occasion for the quarterly print edition.
- Assisting in the creation of content, copy, and other promotional materials to be used in online and social media campaigns.
- Assisting in the creation and development of materials, scripts, and texts to be used in the production of audio-visual material for the website.
- Finding appropriate photos to illustrate texts and drafting suitable captions.
- Working closely in collaboration with other members of the Editorial Team and the News Group.
- Attending events on behalf of the organization.
Desired qualifications, knowledge, and skills:
- Experience in a newsroom, news publication, wire-service, or other media organization.
- Knowledge of and familiarity with MS Office and Google Drive.
- WordPress or other digital publishing experience desired, but not necessary.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated proficiency in communications and writing.
- Knowledge of European policy and politics is desired.
- Fluency in English and mastery of English grammar are mandatory; knowledge of other major European languages useful.
Requirements:
- EU citizenship or legal right to work in Europe.
- 3 month trial period.
- Some evening or weekend work.
- The position is Brussels-based.
