A broad coalition of 36 MEPs spanning the entirety of the Left-Right spectrum have signed onto an initiative which, among other things, calls for the immediate resignation of EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, who’s accused of playing a central role in a “gigantic COVID-19 scientific fraud.”
The initiative, launched by AfD MEP Christine Anderson alongside Romanian Christian Democrat MEP Cristian Terhes—and supported by MEPs in the ID, ECR, Green, Left, and unaffiliated parliamentary groups—demands the full disclosure of the European Commission’s secret contracts with manufacturers of the COVID-19 vaccines, which von der Leyen herself is suspected of having personally benefited from.
The latest calls for EC President Ursula von der Leyen’s resignation—and the accusations leveled against her—come in response to a report last April that revealed der Leyen had exchanged direct calls and text messages with Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla, while the EU had been in the process of negotiating the purchase of nearly two billion doses of the American pharmaceutical giant’s mRNA COVID-19 vaccine. The doses, which initially were expected to cost €15.50 per unit, instead ended up being substantially more expensive, at €19.50 per unit, prompting many to suspect corruption at the highest level had indeed taken place.
Months later, after a request for access to the text messages had been submitted—and was subsequently denied by the European Commission—European Union Ombudsman Emily O’Reilly looked into the matter more deeply, and later concluded that von der Leyen’s refusal to disclose the incriminating text messages constituted a clear cut “case of maladministration.”
Ursula von der Leyen’s behavior “does not meet the expectations of transparency and administrative standards within the Commission,” O’Reilly said, adding that the text messages “fall within the framework of European legislation on public access to documents” and “the public can have access to them if they concern the work of the institution.”
Now, nearly a year after the incriminating revelations were made public—and as the text messages have still not been made public—MEPs from across the political spectrum have rallied not only to expose the EU’s unprecedented lack of transparency and disregard for the rule of law, but to demand the resignation of the bloc’s chief executive for her role in what they’re calling the “pandemic of corruption.”
Days ago, Martin Böhm, the European policy spokesman for the Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) parliamentary group in the Bavarian state parliament, accused the EC President of using the pandemic—along with the unprecedented vaccination campaign—to profit massively alongside her friends in the pharmaceutical industry.
In the press release, Böhm writes:
By now it is well known that Corona is far from posing the dangers that the politicians of the old parties have painted on the wall. The real danger lies in the political pandemic. The exclusion of the unvaccinated, the threat of compulsory vaccination, the restrictions on freedom of work, movement, and education, and the violation of patient confidentiality have undermined the trust of millions of people in democratic institutions.
Now more and more details are coming to light from the back story of the global pandemic scandal. Apparently, some sort of vaccination business plan was privately coordinated between Pfizer’s CEO and von der Leyen before the EU Commission began promoting Covid-19 vaccinations as—supposedly—the only cure for Corona. At the heart of this plan may have been a private business interest rather than concern for public health. The activities of the EU Commission President’s husband, Heiko von der Leyen, as a consultant in the pharmaceutical industry and medical director of a biopharmaceutical company, reinforce the suspicion of serious conflicts of interest.
Neither the vaccines nor the digital vaccination passport have fulfilled the expectations placed on them. The former is risky, ineffective, and lulls people into a false sense of security. The latter is a useless marketing tool.
As the AfD, we are committed to ensuring that the political pandemic is unreservedly clarified! Ms. von der Leyen must reveal her correspondence with Pfizer and clear up all accusations. If she does not succeed in this, she must resign. The European public has a right to know the real reasons behind the vaccination campaign.
The AfD press release comes just days after Cristian Terheș MEP, Ivan Vilibor Sinčić MEP, Stasys Jakeliūnas MEP, Virginie Joron MEP and Christine Anderson MEP gathered for a press conference in Brussels, where they called on von der Leyen to resign and expressed their collective opposition to compulsory COVID-19 vaccinations and the EU Digital Covid Certificate.
“Is this the kind of Europe that we want?” Romanian MEP Cristian asked, adding: “Where an unelected by the people president of the European Commission is ‘negotiating’— personally—with the head of a private company that will affect our basic fundamental human rights?”
Holding up pages of EU contracts with vaccine manufacturers covered with black redactions, the Romanian MEP sardonically said: “This is the great transparency of the European Union,” adding the European was “in a deep crisis”—a crisis of leadership—which has emerged as a result of lack of transparency and grossly deficient support for traditional European values.
“We already have two investigations here that are proving that Ursula von der Leyen is clearly not fit for this office,” Terheș continued.
“I join my colleagues, and publicly demand the immediate resignation of Ursula von der Leyen,” he continued. “Allow this union to be led by a person who truly believes in the European values—in transparency, and in respect for fundamental rights.”
