Irregular migration into the Canary Islands has intensified as of late, with 700 arrivals in a four-day period by way of 16 different vessels.
These include migrants disembarking illegally, as well as those being rescued at sea.
This is part of a general trend, with 12,000 illegal entries into the Spanish islands over the course of this year, representing a 4% rise with respect to 2021.
For his part, Khalid Zerouali, the director of Migration and Border Surveillance in the Moroccan Ministry of Interior, has said that the €500 million received from the EU is not enough to stem the flow of irregular movement of peoples.
