A major police operation has been in full swing in Cologne city centre since the early morning hours following an explosion at a commercial building early on Monday morning.
The entrance area of a building on Hohenzollernring was severely damaged, reported the WDR. The Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger reports that explosion occurred at the Vanity Club Cologne discotheque, but it is not clear whether it was a targeted attack against that business.
The Express reports that it obtained the video from a surveillance camera in the entrance area, showing a person wearing a hoodie putting a bag or sack down in front of an entrance. The building owner told Bild,
This is terror in Cologne. Someone detonated an explosive device, even though he must have seen that there were people there. I estimate that the damage is worth 100,000 euros.
A cleaner survived the explosion and is currently in hospital. According to police, he is considered seriously injured.
THIS IS A DEVELOPING STORY.
