Heavy losses have been seen by Ukraine and Russia as Ukraine struggles to gain ground during its counteroffensive while not yet deploying all of its forces to the frontlines.
While Moscow boasts major successes, claiming it repelled “large-scale” Ukrainian attacks in the southern Donetsk region, Kyiv chooses to play things close to its chest.
The attack marks the highest number of troops Russia has officially recognized as fallen in battle since the start of the Russian invasion in February 2022.
