The intimidation move by the Venezuelan government came after a protest was announced by the opposition.
The move puts further pressure on national governments—particularly Spain’s—to do the same.
Tensions have been growing since Spain offered asylum to opposition leader Edmundo Gonzalez.
“What should the international community do? Edmundo González won the Venezuelan election, there is nothing more to talk about. He is the president-elect.”
Spain’s socialist government seems to be trying to play both sides, as it has also refused to recognise Edmundo González as the legitimate winner of the Venezuelan election.
Delaying any longer gives Maduro the upper hand.
