It was only when Delingpole brought up God and his recent turn to Christianity that Oliver didn’t seem to quite know what to do with himself. Oliver had assumed that he was attending an event for unhinged conspiracy theorists, but it turned out to be much weirder than that: the place was packed with Christians.
Liberals like to claim that their political worldview is not even ideological, but simply what happens when kindness and common sense are allowed to prevail over dogmatism, tyranny, and impractical forms of political romance. But is liberalism, the ruling philosophy of our modern world, really so immune from the utopian temptation?
The picture that has been emerging of today’s papacy is one of a pope, with little or no regard for law and due process, governing a Church that has made disregard for law and tradition part of its ecclesiastical culture.
Despite the challenges it faces, the U.S. is still the best option to help maintain the age-old balance of national identity and power.
