Over a hundred pro-life and pro-family politicians from three continents will gather in New York to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights next week.
The Political Network for Values is hosting its fifth annual Transatlantic Summit, this year at the headquarters of the United Nations in New York City, with the overarching theme focusing on the affirmation of human rights around the globe, calling on attendees to sign the New York Statement reaffirming the principles of the declaration.
The summit is scheduled to be held on November 16th and 17th. In-person attendance is by invitation-only, but the speakers and panels will be livestreamed online for those unable to attend in person on the 17th from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. EST. The stream will be available both in English and Spanish.
According to Lola Velarde, executive director of the Network,
the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the UDHR represents a magnificent opportunity to bring together high-level government officials, legislators, and political and civic articulators from around the world willing to renew their commitment to the human rights enshrined in that document.
Among those participating are a range of senior politicians and elected officials from various countries, including Guatemalan Foreign Affairs Minister Mario Bucaro, Nigerian Women’s Affairs Minister the Honourable Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, Ecuadorian Children’s Minister Erwin Ronquillo, Paraguay’s President of the Chamber of Deputies Raúl Latorre, Colombian Senator Germán Blanco and several other members of various parliaments.
European participants include MEPs Kinga Gál (Hungary) and Margarita de la Pisa (Spain), and national members of parliament Stephen Bartulica (Croatia) and Päivi Räsänen (Finland). Ján Figeľ, former EU Special Envoy for Freedom of Religion or Belief (Slovakia) and representatives from Foundation for a Civic Hungary and the Center for Fundamental Rights are also on the programme.
Alongside elected officials, several prominent activists and members of non-governmental organisations will also be attending the summit, including sponsors of the summit, the Heritage Foundation, The Global Center for Human Rights, the Center for Fundamental Rights, the International Organisation for the Family (IOF), Family catch international, the government of Guatemala and others.
The programme begins at 9:30 a.m. with welcome introductions from Guatemalan Foreign Minister Mario Bucaro alongside Jose Antonio Kast, the Chair of the Political Network for Values and continues until 6:00 p.m. with talks ranging from threats to human rights, affirming the family as the fundamental unit of society, a discussion on freedom of religion, thought and expression along with another panel regarding parental rights and education.
