When under attack from neighbouring states, it seems as if some hospitals deserve more international sympathy than others.

To date more than 30 nations have condemned Israel for alleged strikes on hospitals, calling for investigations and labeling the actions as potential crimes against humanity. Yet when an  Iranian missile struck Soroka Hospital—wounding patients, medical personnel, and children—the world fell silent.

That same outcry is notably absent after the attack on Soroka on Thursday, June 19th.

Whereas countries such as China, Russia, and Turkey—along with the United Nations and major human rights organisations—were previously vocal in their criticism (and blood libel) of alleged Israeli aggression towards hospitals, Soroka has prompted a deafening silence. No statements, no emergency sessions, no international response. Not a missed news story, but a glaring double standard.

IDF spokesman Effie Defrin reported from the site of the Iranian missile strike against Soroka Hospital, stating

This is exactly the face of this regime: it’s a terror regime. We are targeting military targets and they are targeting civilians. They are aiming to kill as many civilians as they can. This is exactly why we launched this operation. We cannot allow Iran to obtain nuclear weapons. We cannot allow Iran to obtain ballistic missiles.

It’s an existential threat for Israel. It’s an imminent threat for Israel. We’ll do whatever we can to dismantle this threat.

Israel’s approach shames the backsliding and cowardice of its so-called friends in the European capitals.
