New polling shows that British voters are standing up for many of the key values behind their vote to leave the European Union.
Britons support retaining national sovereignty as the cornerstone of all political decisions. In contrast, they oppose “pooling” part or all of it to supranational institutions, according to the findings of YouGov on behalf of Queen Mary University.
Presented with the preference ‘Option A’ (“This policy should be decided by UK governments alone), a majority of the 4,534 British adults questioned chose it every time, on 20 areas of law and regulation.
From border control to fisheries, there was clear backing for not voluntarily outsourcing decisions to international institutions.
