Police in Shreveport, Louisiana reported a mass casualty attack involving a single gunman who shot 10 people, prior to escaping in a stolen car. Police went on to confirm the death of the suspected shooter.
According to local Mayor Tom Arceneaux—who also announced that one child at the address survived and was in hospital with a non-life-threatening injury—the shooting
affects the entire community, so we all mourn with these families.
While further details have yet to be confirmed, at least some of the deceased were relatives of the suspect.
In contrast to various other localities worldwide, such incidents are relatively frequent in the United States. Tracking organization the Gun Violence Archive estimates that this is the deadliest U.S. mass shooting in the U.S. since January 2024, when eight individuals were slain in Joliet, Illinois.
