17 EU member states called on the European Commission on Tuesday, May 27th, to “expeditiously make full use of the rule of law toolbox at its disposal” should the Hungarian government be unwilling to withdraw its “anti-LGBT” measures.

The letter, posted online, expresses concern at recent legal steps taken in Hungary that the signatories say “run contrary” to the European Union’s fundamental values.

Legislation passed in March by the Hungarian parliament aims to prevent Pride events, including the annual Pride march that is planned in Budapest for June 28.
