French politician Marion Maréchal and her husband, Vincenzo Sofo, have said they were involved in a car accident on Saturday, August 16, in Calabria.
Their vehicle was hit head-on by another car that swerved to avoid an animal. Both Maréchal and Sofo, a former Italian MEP close to Giorgia Meloni, avoided serious injuries but remain under observation in hospital.
“We came face to face with death, but it was truly a miracle: we survived without serious harm,” Sofo wrote on Instagram, alongside a photo with Maréchal. He added: “Don’t worry – we’re already working on getting back on our feet quickly.”
Maréchal echoed the message, posting: “Given the state of the car, it’s miraculous that we came out of this accident without serious injuries.”
