German voters now see the right-wing party as more competent on migration than any of its rivals.

In “asylum and refugee policy,” Alternative für Deutschland—co-led by Tino Chrupalla and Alice Weidel—has overtaken the CDU/CSU for the first time. According to a new survey by Infratest dimap, more than one in four respondents (26%) say the AfD is the most competent in this area: a 7-point increase since the federal election in February.

The AfD is now viewed as more competent across all major policy areas compared to the last election. In the “economy” category, support for the AfD has risen from 12% to 17% over the past seven months.

On social issues, the CDU/CSU ranks only third. Although the partners lead on foreign policy with 37%, on tax and finance, the AfD has climbed to 18%, overtaking the SPD (16%). The CDU/CSU remains ahead in this area, polling at 25%.

Support for the AfD is causing panic among its political rivals, with the German Greens recently calling for the party to be banned.
