The attack is the latest in a series of similar incidents.

An Afghan asylum seeker was shot dead by police on Thursday, June 26th, in the southern German city of Wangen after he attacked two officers with a knife, critically injuring one of them.

Police had arrived at the private residence with a warrant to arrest the 27-year-old for a previous assault offense.

The perpetrator is said to have suddenly pulled out a knife and attacked the officers. One of them sustained severe injuries. The policemen responded with multiple gunshots, fatally wounding the attacker.

The incident was the latest in a series of knife attacks committed by migrants in the past year or so.

Last year, during a public rally in Mannheim, a 25-year-old Afghan asylum seeker armed with a hunting knife fatally stabbed police officer Rouven Laur and injured five others.
