“A press badge isn’t a shield for terrorism,” Israel said after the targeted operation.

Seven people died in an Israeli air strike outside al-Shifa Hospital, including Anas al-Sharif, reporter Mohammed Qreiqeh, and camera operators Ibrahim Zaher, Mohammed Noufal and Moamen Aliwa.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed it had killed al-Sharif, describing him as a “terrorist” who “posed as a journalist.”

“Intelligence and documents from Gaza, including rosters, terrorist training lists and salary records, prove he was a Hamas operative integrated into Al Jazeera,” the IDF says.

“Al-Sharif, 28, was killed on Sunday after a tent for journalists outside the main gate of the hospital was hit,” a statement from Al Jazeera read.

“The well-known Al Jazeera Arabic correspondent reported extensively from northern Gaza.”
