The peaceful protests called for a halt to large-scale immigration as “communities are pushed to the limit.”

Tens of thousands of Australians took to the streets on Sunday, August 31, to protest against mass immigration, joining ‘March for Australia’ rallies in major cities.

The group says rising immigration is putting pressure on housing, wages, public services, and threatening cultural cohesion.

“Our communities are being pushed to the limit,” the group stated online, calling for action where, in their words, “mainstream politicians lack the courage.”

In Sydney up to 8,000 people joined the rally, many draped in Australian flags. The protest went ahead with a strong police presence and no major incidents. A counter-protest drew a smaller crowd.

A large March for Australia event was held in Melbourne as well, where police allegedly used pepper spray on the demonstrators.
