Vienna orders all official documents to be written using traditional spelling and punctuation.

Walter Rosenkranz—President of the Austrian Parliament and a leading member of the right–wing Freiheitliche Partei Österreichs (FPÖ)—has introduced an explicit ban on gender–inclusive spellings in the National Council, meaning that traditional spelling rules will be once again applied with immediate effect.

Under the new regulation, gender markers such as the asterisk, capital letters, colons, and slashes will be removed from all official documents. FPÖ member Rosenkranz said the aim is to refocus attention on substance rather than spelling.

I wish people would simply follow the recommendations of the Council for German Orthography and not invent their own language. True equality comes from education, fair opportunities and respect—not from punctuation marks.

However, speeches delivered in plenary sessions and texts produced by parliamentary groups will remain exempt from the new rule.
