Czech President Petr Pavel has asked Andrej Babiš, leader of the ANO movement, to commence coalition discussions after his party won the parliamentary elections in October. ANO secured 34.5% of the vote and 80 out of 200 seats, falling short of a majority.
President Pavel urged Babiš to form a government that upholds democratic principles. The outcome of the talks could shape Prague’s future stance on the conflict in Europe, as the outgoing government strongly supported Ukraine in the war with Russia.
