A summer camp in Spain run by controversial trans activist Aner Peritz is now being investigated after multiple complaints by parents. The original mission of the camp, organised by the Euskal Udalekuak organisation, is to familiarize children with Basque culture. However, over the years, the summer camp was apparently ‘queered,’ Reduxx reports, and now is also focussed on promoting “body positivity and acceptance of gender diversity.”
The scandal broke after letters sent home by children from camp in the small town of Bernedo described sexualised and uncomfortable situations. The children said they were only allowed to communicate through handwritten letters, had their phones confiscated, and were told to shower in mixed-sex facilities with adult counsellors and peers. Some reportedly resisted these rules and organised their own segregated schedule. Educators were also reported to have made the children participate in “trans-themed” games in exchange for food, while allegedly consuming cannabis on the camp grounds.
Basque authorities have launched an investigation into what happened, revealing that the organisation running the camp was not officially licensed. The organizers deny any wrongdoing, saying the programme was meant to help children overcome “body shame.”
The case has sparked outrage in Spain, and the regional government has promised tighter oversight of youth camps.
