Several armed attacks took place in the German capital within a few hours over the weekend, some of which resulted in serious injuries. The motives remain unclear in all cases, and most of the perpetrators are still at large.
The first incident occurred on Friday evening in front of a snack bar on Franz-Jacob-Straße in Lichtenberg, where two men, aged 29 and 28, were shot. According to the public prosecutor’s office, the older man remains in critical condition.
On Saturday evening, a 34-year-old man was shot in Böcklerpark in Kreuzberg. An unknown assailant approached him, fired several shots, and then fled. The victim was taken to hospital, but no details have been released about his condition.
Early Sunday morning, unknown perpetrators opened fire on a residential building in Tegel. No injuries were reported. Residents alerted the police, and the attackers fled in a car. It is unclear whether there is a connection between this case and a similar incident in Spandau a week earlier.
Berlin has seen a string of shootings in recent weeks, and investigators believe this weekend’s incidents are part of the same pattern. Several men have been shot in the capital, and in most cases no arrests have been made. Investigators suspect feuds between different, sometimes organised migrant gangs, often linked to drug trafficking, territorial disputes, and unresolved conflicts. Berlin police say they intend to increase pressure in an effort to restore public safety.
