Former U.S. president Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will testify before a House of Representatives investigation into deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and his network, according to a spokesman for the ex-president.
The Clintons had originally refused to meet with lawmakers examining how authorities handled earlier investigations into the financier, who had connections and correspondence with the world’s business and political elite.
The House Rules Committee advanced resolutions claiming the couple had ignored official subpoenas to explain their connections to Epstein, who died in federal custody in 2019 while facing federal sex trafficking charges. Epstein’s network included some of the world’s most prominent business and political figures.
Clinton spokesman Angel Ureña posted on X
The former President and former Secretary of State will be there. They look forward to setting a precedent that applies to everyone.
He emphasized that the couple intends to cooperate with the inquiry.
Previously, current president Donald Trump said the files will expose powerful Democrats’ connections to Epstein, but Trump also appears in emails thrown up over the course of a years-long acquaintance with the man alleged to have supplied underage girls to rich and influential men.
The release of the files has since had political consequences extending beyond the United States, triggering resignations and scrutiny of political figures across Europe.
