The UK Home Office is undergoing major changes under new Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood. Ms. Mahmood replaced Yvette Cooper who—despite moving to the foreign office—is widely seen as having failed to get a grip on the ‘small boats’ crisis.

Following a cabinet reshuffle, visas, passports, and citizenship services will form a separate group within the civil service, where leadership changes are in motion following the departure of Joanna Rowland.

The Home Office is reviewing its border and migration operations to better handle Channel crossings and organized crime. It plans to strengthen the border security command using new powers from upcoming legislation.

Since Labour took office, the issue of illegal Channel crossings has overshadowed Keir Starmer’s administration, with no obvious end in sight—a problem that Nigel Farage is all too aware of.
