A 26-year-old man who opened fire on police officers in central Brussels on Saturday morning has been charged with attempted murder, the Brussels public prosecutor’s office confirmed. Authorities stated there is no indication of a terrorist motive.
The incident occurred around 7:00 a.m. on Steenstraat, near the Bourse. Police officers spotted the man walking with a weapon, at which point he opened fire. Officers returned fire, striking him in the left leg.
The suspect was apprehended and taken to hospital. No other injuries were reported. He has since been interviewed by the investigating judge and remanded in custody.
