A taxi struck four people in central Malmö, Sweden, on Tuesday afternoon, May 20, after veering onto a sidewalk near the Triangeln shopping centre. Three of the victims—two men and one woman—were taken to hospital, while the fourth sustained less serious injuries. The full extent of their injuries is not yet known.

The driver, a man in his mid-50s, was also injured but did not require emergency medical attention. According to the taxi company, he is an experienced professional. Police have arrested him on suspicion of a serious violent crime and seized the vehicle for forensic examination.

The incident occurred at a pedestrian crossing on Södra Förstadsgatan. Witnesses described chaotic scenes, with one saying the vehicle appeared to accelerate before mounting the sidewalk, knocking down road signs, and striking pedestrians. Others said people jumped out of the way in panic.

Police have not yet determined whether the crash was accidental or intentional. A full interview with the driver has not yet taken place, and investigators are continuing to speak to witnesses.
