Activists from the group ‘Last Generation’ on Monday occupied the headquarters of Warsaw Mayor Rafaeł Trzaskowski, the winner in the first round of the country’s presidential elections, the group reported on X.

Demanding that Trzakowski “support the transport postulates” of the group and arrange for them to meet with PM Donald Tusk, the activists also called on Polish authorities to stop the construction of new motorways and instead finance affordable public transportation.
“After three hours of occupation, we sat down to negotiate with the headquarters. From this place we want to say that we achieved success,” the group posted after a press conference, saying Trzakowski has agreed to a meeting with them on June 16th to “talk about the plan for the government to implement our demands. … We also want to talk about withdrawing the indictments against people who are peacefully protesting,” they said.
The group, which is classified as a criminal organization by the Bavarian government in Germany, has been blocking roads and bridges in Warsaw for two weeks to push the government to take climate threats more seriously.

The group has now agreed to suspend these protests until the meeting with the Warsaw mayor, but threatened that they will “resume the protests the following day” if the talks “fail.”
