The first fatality caused by last month’s antisemitic attack in Colorado has been confirmed.
Boulder District Attorney’s Office announced that Karen Diamond, 82, died from the severe injuries that she sustained in the June 1st attack. Her death, confirmed on Monday, June 30th, means that the suspect in the firebomb attack on a march in support of Israeli hostages now faces murder charges.
Diamond’s death means that Mohamed Soliman’s prosecution will be amended to include two counts of first-degree murder beside his alleged attack on the ongoing Run For Their Lives event in the city. Other changes from the D.A.’s office brought an additional 66 counts to the original charges, now that 14 additional victims were identified as part of the ongoing investigation. The amended complaint is expected to name a total of 29 victims of the attack, 13 with physical injuries.
According to 20th Judicial District Attorney Michael Dougherty
This horrific attack has now claimed the life of an innocent person who was beloved by her family and friends. Our hearts are with the Diamond family during this incredibly difficult time. Our office will fight for justice for the victims, their loved ones, and the community.
Suspected firebomber Soliman—an Egyptian national who overstayed his U.S. visa—had been planning the attack for a year. His violent actions are part of a growing wave of antisemitism in the West.
