Details remain unclear and official confirmation is still pending, but it has been suggested that Adam Kadyrov was injured and is said to still be in intensive care on Sunday, January 18th, according to sources cited by RFE/RL.
Some opposition sources, including NIYSO, claim that well-known mixed martial artist and UFC champion Khamzat Chimaev was also present and may have been injured, although other reports now place him in Dubai.
Known as a political figure and potential successor to his father, Adam holds several official positions within Chechnya’s security structures, fuelling speculation about his role in the region’s future. At present, confirmed information remains scarce, and local authorities have not released any official statement about the incident.
Ramzan Kadyrov is well-known as a major supporter of President Putin and Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine, having sent Chechen troops to Ukraine to aid Russian forces fighting there—even allegedly travelling to the country himself in March of last year. Previously, Adam Kadyrov further fuelled regional tensions by menacing Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky on Instagram. Labeling Zelensky a “war criminal,” Kadyrov mocked Kyiv’s leader government figure and threatened to abduct him.
