The opposition ANO party looks set to win the Czech parliament, according to recent polling. President Petr Pavel scheduled national elections for October 3rd and 4th this year. Ex-PM Andrej Babiš continues to lead opinion polls by a wide margin ahead of current Prime Minister Petr Fiala’s Spolu (Together) coalition.
Sunday’s opinion poll by the Kantar agency for Czech Television shows ANO in the lead (35%) backing ahead of Spolu on 19.5%,
Support for the centre-right government is ebbing away, while ANO—part of the Patriots for Europe group in the European Parliament—looks likely to take control of the lower house and form the next government, approving the new PM, most probably Babiš, and his cabinet.
