The far-left Die Linke party in Germany has revised its party line with regards to the definition of antisemitism, with the leftists now considering groups who call for the boycott of Jewish products not antisemitic.
The President of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, Josef Schuster expressed his disdain for the party, saying that the radical core of Die Linke is driven by its hatred of Israel.
The party congress on Saturday, May 10th, decided to no longer follow the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s (IHRA) definition of antisemitism, meaning that organisations such as the Palestinian-led Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel will not be considered antisemitic.
As German daily Bild aptly puts it:
The exclusion of Jews, as practiced by the Nazis at the beginning of their reign of terror (“Don’t buy from Jews”), is now NO longer antisemitic according to the Die Linke’s definition of antisemitism. The move comes only days after politicians of the centre-right governing CDU party said it is time to abandon the party policy of rejecting cooperation with Die Linke, the successors to the former communist party.
