Niyak Ghorbani says he was deliberately targeted and strangled during a protest for Hamas hostages.

A dissident Iranian journalist was violently attacked at a pro-Israel demonstration on Sunday.

According to reports, an assailant threw the contents of a bottle with a foul smell at Niyak Ghorbani before charging at him and grabbing him by the neck. The attack happened at a rally in support of the hostages held by the Hamas terror group.

The assault was captured by photographers present at the demonstration.

Ghorbani described the harrowing experience on X, saying he “truly looked death in the eye and came back from it.” He recounted how, despite his vision fading and being on the verge of blacking out, he gripped the collar of the man strangling him tightly so he could not escape. He also said the attacker’s female companion clawed at his neck and body.

The incident highlights the rising tensions and risks faced by activists speaking out against extremist groups and violence.

Ghorbani believes he was deliberately targeted.
