In an unwanted ‘first,’ UK Border Force brought ashore a pet German Shepherd as it accompanied an asylum seeker into Britain on a recent ‘small boat’ Channel crossing to Dover, Kent.
After news of the hound’s 21-mile journey, Reform UK’s deputy leader Richard Tice stated that this showed how Britain’s borders were wide open:
This country’s open borders policy is so porous even household pets are arriving.
Under biosecurity rules, the animal will now spend four months in government-approved quarantine. Its taxpayer-funded stay could be further extended while its owner pursues a claim for asylum from a taxpayer-funded hotel—and for longer still if man and beast can’t be reunited in future.
Local police could step in and add the dog to a canine unit, thereby saving public funds, once its quarantine period is complete.
