A 19-year-old male from the Netherlands was arrested in the Port of Antwerp on Friday night on suspicion of attempted murder. According to the Antwerp Public Prosecutor’s Office, the teenager is suspected of deliberately driving his vehicle into a police officer. His two accomplices, both aged 16, were also apprehended.
The maritime police had spotted the vehicle and ordered the driver to stop, but he instead drove the car deliberately into one of the officers in an attempt to escape.
An investigating judge ordered the arrest of the man who is charged with attempted murder and drug trafficking. The two minors were placed in a “secure institution” after they were brought before a youth court judge.
