Scarlett Karoleva shared on social media her experience of a safe nighttime stroll in the capital of Hungary.

Dutch journalist Scarlett Karoleva took to social media on Monday, Monday, January 5th, posting a video of her walking along the Buda embankment opposite the Hungarian Parliament. The clip shows Karoleva enjoying the cleanliness of the city and the enchanting winter scenery with a friend, including an impromptu snowball fight, all while noting that she feels completely safe.

Karoleva had attended Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s international press briefing earlier that day. Sharing her experience on X, she wrote: “I love Budapest.”

Budapest is increasingly being recognized as one of the safest capitals in Europe, a reputation reinforced by the government’s firm stance against illegal immigration. As opposed to most Western European cities, women are not scared to walk alone at night in Hungary.
