A man is due in court charged—along with five alleged accomplices—with sexual offences committed against his former wife dating back at least 10 years.
Philip Young, 49, formerly of Swindon, has been charged with 56 sexual offences against Joanne Young, 48, including multiple counts of rape, Wiltshire Police said. The alleged offences are said to have taken place between 2010 and 2023.
He also faces charges of administering a substance to enable sexual activity, voyeurism, and possession of indecent and extreme images.
Five other men have been charged with sexual offences against Ms. Young. All six are due to appear at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, December 23rd.
Police said Ms Young has waived her automatic legal right to anonymity and has been supported by specialist officers throughout the investigation.
While the allegations have yet to be tested in a court of law, the details released so far—including Ms. Young waiving her anonymity—have reminded observers of the 2024 Gisèle Pelicot trial of 51 men, including Ms. Pelicot’s former husband, Dominique Pelicot. The court heard that over a decade, Gisèle was repeatedly drugged by her husband and raped by men he invited into their home while he filmed the attacks.
