The European Union has summoned the Brussels envoys of Russia and Belarus to protest over the “intentional and dangerous” Russian drone intrusion into Poland.
According to an EU official on Friday, September 12th
We conveyed in no uncertain terms that this reckless act signals a serious escalation by Russia and poses a direct threat to the security of EU citizens.
The unnamed EU official specified that the envoys responded, coming in on Thursday.
Russia’s flying of drones over Poland is “absolutely unacceptable,” the French foreign minister said on Friday, adding that the Russian ambassador would be summoned over the incident.
“We will tell him that we will not be intimidated… Whether intentional or not, whether accidental or not, this is very serious, this is absolutely unacceptable,” French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot told France Inter radio, adding
This is a deliberate strategy by Russia to intimidate us, to test us.
Moscow denied targeting Poland and said there was no evidence that the drones were Russian.
U.S. president Donald Trump said on Thursday that the alleged incursion of Russian drones may have happened by “mistake.”
