The EU has announced a €500 million package to make the bloc “a magnet for researchers.”

The European Union will launch a new incentives package worth €500 million to be spent over two years to make the bloc “a magnet for researchers” from non-EU countries, Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen said on Monday, May 5th.

Speaking at a Paris conference on ways to lure foreign scientists to Europe, she said

We have to offer the right incentives.

The move comes as U.S. President Donald Trump’s withholding of federal funds from schools promoting progressive ideologies are falsely perceived by the liberal elites in Europe as an attempt to silence researchers and academics.

Speaking at the Paris conference, French President Emmanuel Macron called U.S. science policies under Trump an “error,” saying “we refuse a diktat consisting of any government being able to say you cannot research this or that.”

This is the pot calling the kettle black: in France, left-wing censorship is actively suppressing academics who seek to challenge the dominance of progressive thought.

It is also hypocritical of the EU where cancel culture thrives and the attempt to silence conservative views continues relentlessly.
