The European Union is sending its Trade Commissioner for a meeting with White House officials, reports indicate, arriving on Sunday, April 11th. It follows a week of global turbulence, as U.S. President Donald Trump imposed wide-ranging trade sanctions on economic friends and foes alike.

Maros Sefcovic has been tasked with reaching a new deal on tariffs, amid the prospect of heavyweight duties imposed on Brussels. On Thursday, April 10th, the EU promised to pause any counter-tariffs of its own directed at Trump, against a backdrop of stock market volatility.
