Andriy Parubiy, who served as Speaker of the Ukrainian parliament from 2016 to 2019, was shot multiple times by the assailant, who approached him on an electric bicycle and fired 7-8 shots before fleeing the scene. Parubiy, 54, died at the scene from his injuries.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the news, condemning the attack as a “horrific murder.” Police have launched an operation to track down the perpetrator, but the motive behind the killing remains unclear.
Born on January 31, 1971, in the Lviv region, Parubiy was a prominent political figure in the 2010s. He was deeply involved in Ukraine’s 2004 Orange Revolution, which began as a protest against election fraud but grew into a broader movement against the country’s corrupt political system.
