A violent confrontation involving gunfire erupted Thursday evening, May 22nd, on a busy street in central Amsterdam. According to Amsterdam police, the altercation involved multiple individuals engaged in a physical fight that escalated into gunfire leaving two men critically injured and resulting in the arrest of five individuals. Authorities are still actively searching for a sixth suspect.
One of the critically injured men suffered a gunshot wound and received immediate treatment from emergency medical personnel on site. A trauma helicopter was dispatched to nearby Dam Square to assist in the response. The injured man was transported to a hospital, where he was placed under arrest.
The second injured individual fled the scene but later appeared at a hospital with injuries sustained in the incident. He was arrested upon arrival, along with a man who had accompanied him.
Later that evening, police apprehended two more suspects at a square just a few streets away from where the shooting occurred. Authorities confirmed Thursday night that a sixth suspect remains at large. The Amsterdam police have yet to release names or provide further details about the people involved or the cause of the altercation.
