A fire broke out at UK prime minister Keir Starmer’s north London property in the early hours of Monday, prompting a police investigation. Emergency services were called to the four-bedroom home on Countess Road, Tufnell Park, at around 1:35 a.m. The London Fire Brigade quickly extinguished the blaze, which damaged the entrance to the £2 million terraced house. No injuries were reported.
Police confirmed the cause of the fire is under investigation, and cordons remain in place. Starmer is not currently living at the property, which he is renting out.
The incident follows rising concern over the security of MPs, with recent protests targeting senior politicians. In April 2024, pro-Palestine activists demonstrated outside the same property, leaving banners and children’s shoes to criticise Starmer’s stance on Gaza. A similar protest was held at Foreign Secretary David Lammy’s residence last month.
A Downing Street spokesperson declined further comment, citing the ongoing investigation.
