After some delay and speculation, former British Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn announced the launch of a new far-left political party on Thursday, July 24th. Temporarily named ‘Your Party,’ some opinion polls indicate that it could peel away support from Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s Labour Party at the next general election.
To date, Corbyn’s most prominent ally in this venture is Coventry South MP Zarah Sultana—who recently forced the left-leaning Observer website to withdraw a cartoon punning on her name—but others are expected to join. Corbyn and Sultana will co-lead the new party, but with plans on a website (blocked by the British parliament’s WiFi) to pull in new recruits and develop a democratic structure over time. receive information about how you can participate in the inaugural conference, where we will determine the direction of this party, the models for leadership, and what the party stands for.
The organisation is likely to continue Sultana’s claim that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. Recently, she shouted “we are all Palestine Action” amid parliamentary moves, now completed, to proscribe the group. To date, Corbyn himself has sat with Parliament’s ‘Gaza independents,’ a bloc of MPs elected on the basis of appealing to a sectarian Muslim vote in English towns and cities.
The party is expected to fight local elections in May 2026. While Labour sources argue in defence of PM Starmer that the “electorate has twice given its verdict on a Jeremy Corbyn-led party,” both leaders continue to poll behind Nigel Farage as the prospective next UK prime minister.
