French authorities arrested four more suspects in connection with the October 19th theft of crown jewels from the Louvre. The group included two men (aged 38 and 39) and two women (31 and 40) from the Paris area.
Earlier, four alleged accomplices were also charged. The thieves stole jewellery worth an estimated $102 million in just seven minutes, escaping on scooters.
During their escape, they dropped a diamond- and emerald-studded crown but made off with eight other pieces, including an emerald-and-diamond necklace once gifted by Napoleon I.
The heist exposed serious security flaws at the museum. The Louvre has promised a greater police presence and new cameras to prevent such incidents in future.
