The main union representing French air traffic controllers (SNCTA) has called off a three-day strike planned for October 7-9, which could have caused serious disruption to European air traffic. The decision was made following negotiations and agreements with the Civil Aviation Authority.
The union demanded higher wages and better working conditions and criticised the management’s “punitive” methods. The new prime minister, Sébastien Lecornu, may have helped ease tensions by promising not to push through the austerity budget without a parliamentary vote.
Previous strikes by French air traffic controllers this summer caused serious disruption to European air traffic, with thousands of flights cancelled.
