Israeli officials cite a growing aliyah trend and rising antisemitic incidents in Europe and beyond.

Israel has seen a sharp rise in immigration from France, with 3,300 French Jews arriving in 2025, marking a 45% increase over the previous year, according to Israeli ministry data.

Overall, 21,900 new immigrants from around 100 countries settled in Israel this year.

Russia remains the largest source, with approximately 8,300 arrivals, though this represents a 57% drop compared with 2024. The United States follows with 3,500 new immigrants, a modest 5% rise, while France now ranks third.

Officials attribute the surge to a growing ‘aliyah’ trend, with young people from Western countries choosing to move to Israel as a return to the Jewish ancestral homeland.

Rising global antisemitism has also been a significant factor, particularly following the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. In France, figures show 646 antisemitic incidents were recorded in the first half of 2025 alone.

A government report in May described the situation as “alarming,” noting that antisemitic acts, especially in schools and universities, had already increased following more than 1,500 incidents in 2024.
