A four-star wellness resort known for its luxury and natural serenity near Malaga has been transformed into a temporary shelter for around a hundred illegal immigrants. The Spanish government has reportedly seized the entire hotel for emergency accommodation purposes, leaving it closed to regular guests.
Previously marketed as a “perfect retreat for those who want to relax and unwind,” the resort boasted amenities such as a heated indoor pool, modern fitness center, spa and sauna facilities, and a wide array of massage and facial treatments priced between €65 and €85.
Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez’s administration has faced ongoing criticism for what opponents describe as overly permissive migration policies. Local discontent has been intensified by the lack of prior consultation or communication regarding the hotel’s change in function.
Spanish conservative party VOX, commented on X: “While the people of Malaga are in crisis because they cannot buy or rent a house, illegal immigrants who cross our borders enjoy full board and lodging.” The party’s regional section accused the government of disregarding the needs of Spanish citizens, particularly amid housing shortages and economic pressures.
The identities and nationalities of those being housed at the resort have not been disclosed. There is also no official word yet on whether this emergency use of the hotel will be short- or long-term. Local media and affected guests remain in the dark, with attempts to reach hotel management proving unsuccessful.
