Terrorist Hashem Abedi attacked guards at a prison in County Durham, England, prompting his relocation to HMP Belmarsh. The Islamist attacked guards at HMP Frankland on Saturday, using boiling cooking oil and several homemade blades.

This follows a previous conviction for assaulting a prison officer in 2021, while serving a life sentence for helping his brother Salman carry out the 2017 Islamist bombing of an Ariana Grande concert that killed 22 people. Remarkably, Abedi’s ideology means he had a specialist area of the prison for personal use—including the kitchen where he prepared his makeshift weapons.

Russell Hayward, partner of bomb victim Martyn Hett, called it “sickening and outrageous” that lax security and preferential treatment had allowed this to happen, telling the government:

I am furious that the pain of survivors like me is being so blatantly disrespected by your inaction. This cannot continue. Something drastic needs to be done. Not tomorrow. Not next month. Now.

The recent fury of friends and family over Abedi contrasts with the official narrative that Britons “don’t look back in anger” at the Libyans’ crimes, lest it upsets Muslims and upends multiculturalism.

“I’m not just angry. I’m broken by this,” Mr Hibbert added.

This cannot continue. Something drastic needs to be done. Not tomorrow. Not next month. Now.

Review his prison privileges. Strip him of any access to areas where he can make or find weapons. Protect your staff. Protect the memory of those we lost. Respect those who survived.

Because right now, it feels like you’ve forgotten us.
