On Monday, November 10th, the home of Hungary’s honorary consul was attacked in Frankfurt-Preungesheim under cover of darkness, damaging the façade of her house and her husband’s vehicle.
Nicola Beer is the vice president of the European Investment Bank and an FDP politician. According to reports, several people
- broke into the residential area,
- sprayed purple paint on the façade of the house,
- slashed the tyres of the couple’s car,
- broke the car’s windows,
- emptied the contents of a fire extinguisher inside the vehicle.
The perpetrators are unknown at this time and the national security service has launched an investigation.
A statement of responsibility appeared on the extremist internet forum “Indymedia,” declaring “Solidarity with Maja in the Hungarian prison—freedom for all anti-fascists!”
The letter also stated that the attack was primarily directed against Beer’s husband, Jürgen Illing. It said together they
represent the unholy and mendacious mixture of capital and fascism that has become unbearable for us.
The couple are also repeatedly referred to as “Orbán supporters” and “part of the right-wing elite.”
The attack is most likely linked to the far-left anti-fascist ‘Maja T.’—born male and named Simeon T.—who is currently in custody in Hungary. According to the charges, as a member of the so-called “Hammer Gang,” ‘Maja’ and his co-conspirators committed serious crimes—including attempted murder—against several people they considered to be far-right extremists.
